(Zapata, Emiliano) Plan de Ayala. True copy of the famous "Plan of Ayala," Signed by Eufemio Zapata, Emiliano's blood brother and right-hand man, 3 pp, folio. Also signed by General José T. Ruiz and General Francisco Mendoza. The Plan of Ayala called for the seizure of all foreign-owned land, all land taken from villages, confiscation of one-third of all land held by "friendly" hacendados, and full confiscation of land owned by persons opposed to the Plan of Ayala. Emiliano Zapata had joined Francisco Madero's rebellion against the dictator, Porfirio Díaz, but by late fall of 1911, Zapata became disillusioned by Madero's slowness to move on land reform. The Plan de Ayala, written by a village schoolteacher named Otilio Montafio and published by Zapata on November 27, 1911, is still considered the most radical reform program in Mexican history. Emiliano Zapata's cry was "Land and Liberty!" He was one of the most radical and committed to social justice of all the revolutionary leaders; he was assassinated in 1919. Archivally matted with a limited edition reprint of a vintage photo of Emiliano, Eufemio and other "zapatistas," 9 x 13½ inches. A very important document.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.
