Mendez, Juan (1820-1894) Governor of Puebla; President of the Supreme Military Court of Justice; he temporarily replaced Porfirio Díaz (Dec. 6, 1876-Feb. 15, 1877) when Díaz went to fight against the "iglesistas." Manuscript Letter Signed as Chief of the Army of the East, Jan. 3, 1872, 1 page, octavo. Certifying that Luiz Osval, captain in the infantry, had given his services to the "National Insurrection." Archivally matted with an image of Mendez to an overall size of 21½ x 11¼ inches.
