Lerdo de Tejada, Sebastián (1823-1893) President of Mexico from July 19, 1872 to November 20, 1876. As chief justice of the supreme court, he assumed the presidency after the death of Beniro Juárez; he was overthrown by Porfirio Díaz after an illigitimate election. Cut closing from a letter Signed ("S. Lerdo de Tejada"), n.p., n.d., 1½ x 3¾ in. The closing says, "soy su afmo. amigo y muy atento servidor." Archivally matted with an 11 x 8½ inch image to an overall size of 18 x 14½ inches.
