Carranza, Venustiano (1859-1920) One of the leaders of the Mexican Revolution; President of Mexico 1915-1920. The current constitution of Mexcio was drafted during his administration. Document Signed as President (First Chief of the Constitutional Army, Encharged with the Executive Power of the State), Mexico, May 20, 1916, 13½ x 8½ inches. A diploma of merit awarded to Professor Miss Raquel C. Ramírez, for her patriotic services to the People's Cause in the difficult moments of the fight against the reactionaries and for following the Government when it had to be moved from Mexico to Veracruz. Archivally matted to an overall size of 19½ x 14½ inches. In September 1916, Carranza called for a Constitutional convention. On March 11, 1917, he was elected the first president under the new Mexican Constitution of 1917. He was overthrown and assassinated in 1920.
