Lot 926

Liberty Seated Dollar. 1853. PCGS graded AU-55. Pleasant pewter surfaces are balanced with champagne undertones and enriched with rich luster. A typcially seen old nick exists on Liberty's right leg. Cap and head are struck better than most. Strike weakness is evident on the eagle's right wing on the reverse. Planchet is solid except for a flaw that exists under the DO of DOL on the rim.
After two years of very low mintages in 1851 and 1852, 1300 and 1100 respectively, the Philadelphia Mint produced 46,110 1853 seated dollars. Nice AU examples of these mid-19th century dollars are a strong buy for the collector (PCGS # 6941) .
Estimated Value $1,100 - 1,300.

Realized $1,035
