Draped Bust Dollar. 1799. B-5a. R-3. PCGS graded MS-62. A boldly struck example with the portrait of Liberty strong and displaying nice hair detail. Mixtures of light gray and amber toning are interspersed with a light chalky film that has hints of salmon and pewter hues to it. This reverse die variety is quickly recognized by all six top stars touching the clouds, the last two with two points touching each cloud. A later die state with the reverse die crack through UNITED STATES plainly visible. PCGS has graded 30 in this grade with 24 specimens known finer (PCGS # 6878) .
