Lot 44

(c.1792-94) Kentucky Cent. Lettered edge, "LANCASTER". PCGS graded AU-58. Boldy impressed on a nice quality planchet. A few scattered tick marks here and there but a high quality AU example. Upon inspection, one will notice the sharp definition of the 15 blazing suns or stars, each containing an intial of one of the states. Due to Kentucky being admitted as the 15th state in 1792 and remaining the "newcomer" until Tennessee as the 16th in 1796, a realistic time frame for the production of these tokens would be 1792-1796. Coincidentally, Kentucky's intial "K" sits atop the pyramid. Most agree that it was John Gregory Hancock, Sr. who was responsible for the production of this issue.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.

Realized $489
