Lincoln Cent. 1909. PCGS graded Proof 66 Red. A very impressive gem example of this first year of issue Lincoln cent matte proof. Uniform orange-red surfaces have rich luster. Lincoln's portrait is strong and lacking any marks. No spots on either the obverse or reverse. Pop is 34 with only 6 finer, a single 68RD the finest.
Two types of matte proofs were struck in 1909. This proof issue, the 1909 "Plain", had a mintage of 2,198 pieces. It is significantly more available than the 1909 "V.D.B." proofs, of which 420 were struck but superb gem examples of the "Plain" issue are still scarce to rare (PCGS # 3305) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.

Realized $2,358
