Lot 185

Flying Eagle Cent. 1858, 8 over 7. NGC graded MS-64. One of the finest known examples of this popular overdate variety! Pleasing even brown surfaces that have only the faintest flyspecks on the obverse. Well struck and brilliant. Best identified by a short vertical tick mark on the reverse just above the right bow of the ribbon. Both the obverse and reverse are well struck, with the only weakness at top of the wreath which is the "norm" for this issue. In terms of the overdate, the top of the 7 shows cleary above the 8 in date and is positioned over the right side of the 8's upper loop. The diagnostic die lump is found above the date, boldy in the field. This is a very significant example with an early die state. Die state is very important for this issue as we have seen examples in the past that show no trace of the 7 over the 8. A fantastic opportunity to acquire one of the finest of this variety!.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 18,000.
