$2.50 Gold Liberty. 1840-C. SEGS graded AU-58 Lite Cleaning. The first year of the Liberty Head design in the quarter eagle series and correspondingly a popular issue with type colletors. Only 12,822 pieces were minted and survivors in the high AU grade range are very rare. This example displays some evidence of original luster near the periphery. Surfaces display hairlines from an improper cleaning.
