Lot 1436

1859 Pattern Half Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-246. Pollock-304 Rarity-7. NGC graded Proof 63 Brown. Another fresh example of an interesting die pairing within the U.S. pattern series. This piece displays Longacre's "French Liberty Head" design, paired with Paquet's reverse design of a bold perched eagle holding a ribbon in beak. Both obverse and reverse uniformly toned a coffee brown and both sides display original and untouched surfaces. A very choice example of a substantially scarcer die pairing. NGC has graded a total of 3 specimens for Judd-246.
Estimated Value $2,700 - 3,000.
