Lot 1429

1836 Gobrecht Silver Dollar. Silver, plain edge. Restrike. Judd-60. Pollock-65. PCGS graded Proof 55. Stars on Reverse, Name on Base, Die Alignment IV. Subtle gray surfaces over semi-reflective fields. Liberty has the smallest amounts of friction on the hight points. Light hairlines exist in the fields but are difficult to detect due to the soft gray coloration. The only mark to point out is a small circular tick mark in the left field, just past the elbow. Reverse appearance and quality match that of the obverse with the only exception being a light band of darker charcoal coloration extending from the lower left rim vertically to the 11:00. Die Alignment IV on the reverse, proving this to be one of the restrikes purposely struck for collectors. Gobrecht dollars have always been a popular type coin and recently this demand has surged. With supply limited and the more rare varieties reserved more for specialists, the 1836 Restrike is highly sough after. A pleasing "circulated" proof in a very collectible grade.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 9,000.

Realized $10,925
