Sicily. Messana, c. 420-413 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.28 g). Nymph Messana in slow mule biga left; ethnic above, twin confronted dolphins in exergue. Reverse: Hare springing left over stalk of barley; ethnic around. Calt. 511 (D205/R211); Kraay & Hirmer 55 (same reverse die). On small thick flan, otherwise sharp problem-free strike on superb metal. Artistic dies, with much mint luster remaining. Very nice. Extremely Fine.
