Turkey, Ottoman Sultans. Three Gold Sultanis showing well the prominence of Jewish mintmasters and their power within the Ottoman Court: Selim I (1512-20) under the minter Abraham de Castro (Fr-1, Very Fine condition); Suleiman II, "the Magnificent," (1520-1566) with influence from Joseph Nasi (Fr-1, Lustrous Extremely Fine); Selim II (1566-1574), also under the influence of Nasi, Duke of Naxos (Fr-1, Fine). Lot of 3 coins.

During the 1500s, Venice, France and Holland offered welcome to the Jews. During the Commonwealth period and later, even England changed her mind and a small community of Spanish and Portuguese Jews was again established in London.
