Hungary. Group of Five Silver Denars of the 13th century, all with Hebrew letters indicating mintmasters' initials. Lot of 5 coins. Condition is Fine to Very Fine.
Whether these are called light-weight denars or obols, the medieval coinage of Hungary offers challenges on all fronts. The relationship of the Jews to rulers who accepted Christianity in AD 975 is under discussion and revision; it may well be that these small coins offer a greater insight than earlier thought.
