1889 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded Proof 64. A dazzling, golden Gem with sunset-orange toning on both sides. Lovely, orange-peel surfaces. Identifiable by a squiggly lintmark above DO of DOLLAR. PCGS reports 18 in this grade with only 28 finer. This was the last year not only of the type, but the entire denomination, as well. To celebrate, the Mint produced 1,779 Proof Gold Dollars -- the highest Proof mintage of the entire series (PCGS # 7639) .
