Early Ethiopian Christian Book. Late 18th or early 19th century handwritten religious book written in the Ge'ez language, in black and red ink on vellum pages, approximately 4-2/3 x 6-2/3 x 2¾ inches. The script consists of the "Psalms of David" with additional commentary. It consists of approximately 135 leaves, hand sewn into original wood board binding, and almost all with writing on both sides. Accompanying the book is its original, beautifully hand-sewn leather carrying case with very long original shoulder strap. The book also carries, as a sort of frontispiece, a fascinating primitive brush-pen drawing of a figure standing beside a radiant sun with his hands outstretched. Condition of both items is fine.
