Lot 458

King James I Period Indenture - 1618. A beautifully penned English vellum document, in dark ink, from the 15th year of the reign of King James I, 1618, 14 x 22½ in. Flourished calligraphy to initial letter with flowing Chancery script throughout. The document appears to be an exemplification of a recovery document dealing with a judgment in a land dispute before the Chancery court. It also appears the transaction is based in Essex and involves, among others, Thomas Thornton. Normal folds and two small corner creases at upper left, one just crossing the upper part of the large script letter. Light soiling on back of document. Internally clean, bright, and very fine. Would mount beautifully.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
