Hunt, William Morris (1824-79) American portraitist. Autograph Letter Signed ("W.W. Hunt"), Milton (Mass.), July 22, no year (after 1855), 1 page, small octavo. He writes to Mr. Doll about the Governor's portrait: "I want you to try the Governors portrait on an Easel in the other end of the room or a corner of the other end. As the light does not see satisfactory…." Affixed at top edge to a larger sheet. Boldly penned and signed. With a portrait engraving of Hunt in his later years. Hunt studied in Europe from 1846 to 1855, where he became closely linked to Millet and the Barbizon school. He became a portraitist and introduced contemporary French painting to Boston. His work hangs in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
