Dali, Salvador (1904-89) Spanish surrealist painter. Black and white Photograph Signed "Dalí," no place (1951), 8¼ x 8¼ inches. A French publicity photograph of the flamboyant, mustachioed artist. Signed in black ink against the white inside cover of Dalí's book. Fine. Dalí went to Paris in 1928 and became part of a group of Surrealist artists, authors, and filmmakers. His early paintings, such as The Persistence of Memory epitomized the hallucinatory aspect of Surrealism. He also collaborated with filmmaker Luis Buñuel on Un chien andalou (1928) and L'Age d'Or (1930), which were scandalous at the time.
