Anderson, Joseph (1757-1837) Tennessee senator 1797-1815; appointed first comptroller of the U.S. Treasury, 1815-36. Folded Letter Signed ("Jos Anderson"), as Comptroller, Treasury Department, Washington, September 27, 1817, 1pg folio. Addressed to Jeremiah Bradbury, Collector in York, Mass., about an adjustment for the first and second quarters of 1816. Address leaf is Free Franked in upper right corner, with black-brown "FREE" stamp below; black-brown "WASHN CITY / SEP / 30" postmark is at upper left. Both signatures are bold. Strong rag paper in nice condition. Light toning; address leaf has tear at upper left, lightly affecting top of postmark, else Fine.
