Nero, 54-68 AD. AE Sestertius, Lugdunum mint, struck c. 65 AD. Scarce. Laureate head of Nero right. Reverse: Annona at left, holding cornucopia, facing Ceres, seated at right and holding a torch, between them a garlanded altar with modius, behind is the stern of a ship; ANNONA AVGVSTI CERES. SC. A truly crisp and detailed strike, with variegated green and red-brown patina. The portrait of Nero with an almost Greek purity of form, but which does not hide the hint of malevolence in his eye.
