Nero, 54-68 AD. AE Sestertius, Lugdunum mint, struck c. 65 AD. Scarce. Laureate head of Nero right. Reverse: Annona at left, holding cornucopia, facing Ceres, seated at right and holding a torch, between them a garlanded altar with modius, behind is the stern of a ship; ANNONA AVGVSTI CERES. SC. A truly crisp and detailed strike, with variegated green and red-brown patina. The portrait of Nero with an almost Greek purity of form, but which does not hide the hint of malevolence in his eye. An impressive example of this elaborate pictorial type! Choice Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,500

Realized $2,415
