1857. PCGS graded Proof 63. Lovely rainbow toning on both sides. The centers feature a subtle, sky-blue color that shimmers as the coin is turned, almost like the colors in a laser-generated holograph. We've never encountered this effect before and it is simply lovely. The mintage for this piece has been estimated at a mere 50 Proofs. This was created before the Mint began selling Proofs as a regular part of their business -- the only way to obtain one was by special request or by visiting the Mint in person!
