Lot 2080

1874. Arrows. PCGS graded Proof 66 Cameo. A blazing white Gem, with heavy frosting on the central devices (in fact, we see no reason why this should not be a Deep Cameo). A lovely, red-brown-gold toning has begun to form on some of the outermost peripheries. This is as fine as they come -- PCGS has graded only four at this level, and none higher.
The arrowheads on either side of the date were placed there to signify a move to the Metric System of weights at the Mint in 1873. Unlike in 1853, the change in the weights of the coins was negligible and more of an arithmetic calculation under the new system than any real change. In reality, the change remained within the margin for error under the old system! Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000

Realized $10,350
