Lot 1712

Nero, 54-68 AD. Gold Aureus (7.6g), Rome mint, struck as Caesar under Claudius, 50-54 AD. Bare-headed and draped bust right of Nero as a youth. Reverse: Four-line inscription on shield; behind, vertical spear. RIC 78 [as R2]; BMC 92. Three small cuts at edge, and two vertical scratches on reverse. Otherwise, this is an excellent example of a coin minted while Nero was under the influence of Seneca; the portrait is lovely! Choice Very Fine.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.

Realized $3,450
