1828 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Square base 2, small 8's, large letters. NGC graded MS-64. PQ. Beautiful toning consisting of rose, olive, and blue pastels. The reverse is fully Prooflike -- even the stripes of the shield are polished and brilliant. The obverse is not nearly as brilliant and has more of a satiny appearance. We suspect that at least one time in this coin's past, it was referred to as a "one-sided" Proof. Breen doesn't mention this variety specifically, but makes note that at least 6-8 of the Square Base 2, Small 8's, Large Letters Half Dollars are known as Proofs. He also lists a one-sided Proof of the Overton 105 variety. So, this coin is not without precedent. Whether it is worth a premium or not, we leave to you, the bidder.
