The Defender of Dreyfus. Here Speaks Out in Support of Women and Children. Creased across the middle for mailing, with marginal break at one crease. (1840-1902) French writer and critic, leader of the naturalist school. With the publication of La Fortune des Rougons (1871), Zola began his twenty-two-year, twenty-volume experiment in the naturalistic novel entitled Les Rougon-Macquart. Scientific precision and scrupulous attention to detail mark his lengthy portrait of the Rougon-Macquart family. An advocate for social reform, he penned his famous letter in defense of Captain Dreyfus, J'Accuse.
