Lot 280

Japanese War Criminals. Signatures of the Japanese war criminals are far rarer than those of their German counterparts tried at Nuremberg. An outstanding collection in fine condition. Excellent collection of twenty-five signatures of Japanese generals, admirals and politicians collected by an American guard at the 1946 Tokyo War Crimes Trial. The signatures are contained within a small, green covered notebook, about 3 x 3½", unbound. Every signature is in ink and occupies a single side of one of the pages, thus they could be removed for framing or display. Each criminal has signed in English and Japanese characters, and the list includes virtually every major figure put on trial. This fine collection includes the following (with their sentence appearing in parentheses):

Hideki Tojo (death), Sgigenori Togo (20 years), Okinori Kaya (life), Seishiro Itagaki (death), Hiroshi Oshimi (life), Naoki Hoshino (life), Osamin Nagano (died during trial), Takazumi Oka (life), Kenji Doihara (death, Koki Hirota (death), Shunroku Hata (life), Akira Muto (death), Jiro Minami (life), Kiichiro Hiranuma (life), Kingoro Hashimoto (life), Koichi Kido (life, Kenryo Sato (life), Mamoru Shigemitsu (seven years), Sadao Araki (life), Yoshijiro Umezu (life), Shigetaro Shimada (life), Kuniaki Koiso (life), Heitaro Kimura (death), and Teiichi Suzuki (life).
