Lot 275

Dönitz, Karl. All three items matted and framed to an overall size of 18½ x 18½". (1891-1980) German navel commander-in-chief. Became führer on the death of Hitler, he was responsible for the final surrender to the Allies.

An archive of three separate signed items framed together to form an historic offering.

A. Typed fair copy (in English) signed of his "Broadcast to the German People, May 1, 1945." signed and dated in blue ink Dec. 11, 1973. "The Fuhrer has nominated me as his successor. In full consciousness of my responsibilities I therefore assume the leadership of the German people at this fateful hour. My first task is to save German men and women from destruction by the advancing Bolshevist enemy. It is to serve this purpose alone that the military struggle continues. For as long as the British and the Americans continue to impede the accomplishment of this task, we must also continue to fight and defend ourselves against them. The British and Americans in that case will not be fighting in the interests of their own peoples, but solely for the expansion of Bolshevism in Europe."

B. Autograph Letter Signed. (Partly German and English) on his personal imprinted stationery, Oct. 12, 1971. Sends his greetings to several individuals for some payments received.

C. Photograph Signed and dated. A fine black and white military photo, 4 x 6", boldly signed and dated on the lower white margin. Fine.
Estimated Value $700 - 1,000.
