Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 2

Lot 1877

1876. PCGS graded MS-63. Most Type II double eagles are notoriously difficult to find in high grade. This coin is a decided exception to the rule, and a coin of considerable beauty besides. It has semi-prooflike surfaces that feature blazing luster, a somewhat frosted Liberty and eagle, a really good sharp strike, and relatively few abrasions. In other words, this is a high-end example of an MS63 Twenty. Pop: 16x MS63 and 3x MS64 at NGC; 10x MS63 and 8x MS64 at PCGS. None better. So … this coin fits comfortably into the middle of the nicest ones graded so far. How many of those others are so pretty?
