1856-D. Sharpness of EF-40 but repaired. Here is one of the really rare dates in the One Dollar Gold series. Mintage topped out at 1,460 coins. As all too often seen, this one has its problems, there is an area of buffing in the left obverse field where some scratches have been removed. Obviously this important coin should be inspected by bidders prior to the sale, as any problems need to be evaluated before the sale. Lustrous and well struck overall.
