Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 2

Lot 1593

1854 Type 2. ICG graded MS-62. Subdued frosty surfaces and well struck. The date and central reverse devices are all complete. Struck from lightly clashed dies, as are most of this tiny issue. Long respected as one of the most difficult type coins to locate in Mint State, very few of which were preserved in any Mint State grade, and the type was quickly changed in just a few years. At the time of issue, a dollar was a lot of money to "save" or otherwise not spend, thus most were spent and circulated into lower grades. An important opportunity.

Realized $10,925
