Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 2

Lot 1101

1854 Type II. MS-60 Plus. An oldtime piece, from the J.J. Pittman Collection sale (Oct. 1997, Lot 404), and sharply struck. The toning is a deeply set russet-brown with some ligher hues of silver and gold. Most of the stars are fully defined, as are all the other devices. The rims are high, too, though there are some really minute ticks on the edge below the date. The centers of the "III" denomination show some slight discoloration, but not wear. The coin brought a good price in the Pittman sale, and deserves one again here. As the Red Book notes, "Well struck specimens command higher prices."

Realized $242
