A Group of Colorful, Vintage Paper Mâché Objects. Iran, c. early 20th century, or earlier. A variety of objects by differing hands, and of various dates. Includes are a casket with mirrored interior lid and hasp for lock, a narrow and oblong pen case, two smaller boxes, one hinged, and mirror case. All with predominant lacquered decoration of intricate floral sprays or arabesques, sometimes inhabited by song birds, in greens, pinks, reds, and golds, on a black background. In addition, the pen case lid has vignette of two hunters on horseback brandishing bow and saber; the fine rectangular box lid similar, but three horsemen pursuing their prey with sabers. The lid of the small box instead with polo scene. The mirror case with much the same painting, but this on a brownish burgandy ground, the upper lid with courtly palace or harem scene; the case's interior in black with sprays of iris. Pen case with some modest chipping to the paint, with the rest having an occasional small chip here or there. Item lengths: 4" - 9". Eye catching material for decorative display.
