Lot 2584

Meissen Porcelain Wares. A Fine and Large, Square Tray. Hand painted flowers, on a pure white ground, form the centerpiece of this impressive handled tray. Dominating are the full bloom rose colored in a madder crimson, plus a red and yellow mum, a yellow daffodil, and other colorful varieties, all painted with a discerning touch. The gold-fired ornate and raised edging in sinuous arabesques, with scallop shell corners, and two cartouches, each enclosing a small painted floral spray. Inside the gold borders, a wider border of deep cobalt or royal blue. At center of tray's underside, a mark of two crossed swords in cobalt blue, with two grooves cutting though them, plus other impressed numerical marks. Tray immaculate. Size: 16" x 16". Ca. 1930, or earlier. A wonderful piece -- rich and elegant, yet with an air of restraint.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
