London and Edinburgh: Johnston, W & A.K, 1894. 19 x 15". 40 political maps; seven historical maps (Europe); five classical maps; 4 physical maps (Great Britain and Northern Europe); three scriptural maps; six astronomical plates. Very clean, very little toning or foxing; original covers worn and abraded overall and torn in two places front and back, but intact; water damage to back cover does not affect text; loose boards; one political map (New Zealand) is free in center of book. But for the cover defects, generally very good condition.
Published for a reading public "who do not wish to be at the expense, or who cannot afford to purchase a number of high-priced works treating the various branches of Geography and Astronomy." Surely a treasured part of many household libraries.
