Lot 2138

[Biblical] Dutch Map of Eden. C. 1730. Amsterdam. Likely Romain de Hooghe. Extensive text verso in Dutch.
Hand colored map. Small margins are somewhat crumpled; minor separation at folds top and bottom; center seam has been strengthened; tissue repairs verso not evident recto. Very good condition.
Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden adore a globe floating above them. The animals in the garden gather around. Two panels of vignettes below show first events from the Old Testament ("Prophetien") and then the New Testament ("Vervullingen"). Each event is numbered and then titled in the lower margin. At the base of the image is the Lamb of God resting on the Book containing the Seven Seals.
An appropriately dramatic rendering of the Bible from Genesis to the Resurrection, sure to appeal to the pious of Northern Europe.
Estimated Value $600 - 650.
