A Remarkable Set of World's Fair Flatware, in Wood Flatware Box. New York, 1939. Issued in silver plate by William Rogers. In the set are two groups of 12 spoons wherein each bowl features a different exhibit or building: Administration, Aviation, Textile, Georgian Section in Court of the United States, Consumer Interests, Hall of Medicine and Public Health, New York State Amphitheater, Railroad Transportation, Food Exhibition, United States Government, Marine Transportation, and New York City Exhibit Hall. Comprising the balance of the set are: 8 dinner knives (with stainless blades), a condiment spoon, a cheese spreader, 7 butter knives, and 8 each of soup spoons, salad forks, dinner forks, and finally, 2 large serving spoons. These pieces have only the famed Trylon and Perisphere on the stepped and angular handles. Utensils range from pristine, with dark, iridescent toning, some with light use or cleaning. Average Length about: 6-1/8". Flatware comes in what is said to be the original wood box of issue, with blue felt interior, with lid in gold lacquer and base in brown, each with banded patterning resembling birch. Rare to find a set with the original box!
