Lot 1247

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. St. Louis by the Spoonful! Two fine sterling spoons in teaspoon size, plus two in demitasse. One large and the two small are the same handle style, consisting of frontal heads Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon flanking the Water Tower, and below on stem, a star-encircled fleur-de-lis. Subjects on bowls: the Agricultural Building, and two versions of the Festival Hall and Cascade Gardens. The latter, plus the Missouri Building is seen on three handle backs, while the Eads Bridge is on the fourth. Variations on these themes are seen on four additional spoons in silver plate -- plus the American eagle and the city's seal. Bowls have: the Palace of Liberal Arts, Palace of Electricity, and the Festival Hall. Spoon sizes are: two table or soup spoons, a teaspoon, and a demitasse. Silver spoons exceptionally preserved, the plate pieces mostly so, with one showing very obvious wear to the plating. Lengths: 4-1/4" - 5-1/2". Lot of 8 pieces.
Estimated Value $125 - 175.
