Lot 1219

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. The St. Gaudens / Barber Official Award Medal, in Bronze or Bronze Plate. The obverse, by St. Gaudens, has Columbus armor-clad and looking heavenward as he steps on land. The reverse, by U.S. Mint engraver Charles Barber, shows two angels flanking globe and ship. In choice Extremely Fine condition, with minor dent to edge. Size: 3". In addition, two more medals, both the same, but one in bronze and one white metal: obverse with portrait of the Navigator; the reverse with twenty-two U.S. Presidential portraits around a central one of Washington. The Bronze piece Extremely Fine plus; the white, Superb. Sizes: 2-1/8".
