Lot 1203

Collector's Spoons. A Fine Group of Spoons with Figural Motifs. Lot of teaspoon and demitasse-sized pieces, with one verging on tablespoon size. Most in 800 silver, with half being gilt, most with enameling to handles, and all having enameled designs to the bowls. The designs seem to be either transfer prints or hand painting, or a mixture of both. One with a handsome portrait of Franz Josef(?), or an aged Kaiser Wilhelm. Others with quaint renderings of native costume, including: a girl from Malta, a delightful Italian maid from Lugano, two with locals of Mexico, a lace maker(?) from Malta, from Naples, an Italian girl playing the mandolin, and, most humorously, the "Manneken-Pis" from the Brussels, the famous bronze fountain of a little boy peeing! Spoons seem to be mostly turn of the century to pre-WWII, with two or three fairly recent. They show slight to moderate use. Lot of 11. A choice lot!

Estimated Value $300 - 1,204.
