Lot 1984

$3 Gold. 1878. PCGS graded MS-65 Premium Quality. Radiant luster in the fields and simply stunning quality for this rare type coin. As to the strike, the obverse is full and strong, while the reverse shows slight weakness on the lower wreath on the ribbon knot and the adjacent leaves. Rare this nice, PCGS has graded 120 as such of the date, with only 63 graded higher (best MS-67). Rarely are these encountered so problem and spot free (PCGS # 8000) .
Estimated Value $7,000-UP.
From the Benson collection and purchased from Ira S. Reed on April 15, 1944 for $9.00.

Realized $13,225
