Roman Imperial Coinage. Lot of Sixteen Silver and Bronze Coins, Late Empire to Byzantine, c. 161-641 AD. Very good collection for a beginner; well worth a look. Earliest is Marcus Aurelius, AR Denarius: Roma enthroned left, holding Victory (RIC 259). Caracalla, AR Denarius: Mars in military attire, with shield and spear (RIC 81). Elagabalus, AR Denarius: Liberalitas holding abacus (RIC 97, scarce!). Severus Alexander, AR Denarius: Liberalitas holding abacus (RIC 148); plus, an AE 21 of Caesarea, Cappadocia: Four ears of grain (BMC 312 var.). Two AR Antoninianii of Gordian III: Sol, nude, with orb (C. 38); plus Antioch mint, Fortuna enthroned left (RIC 210). Philip I, AR Antoninianus: Virtus left, foot on helmet (RIC 52). Gallienus, an AE 25 of Nicomedia, Bythinia: Three agonistic crowns (von Aulock 7149). Two AE Folli of Constantius I: Moneta left (RIC 32); Genius left, with cornucopia (RIC 357). Galerius, AE Folles: Moneta left (C. 189). Constans, silvered AE Centenionalis: Constans in galley left (RIC 124 var.). Justininian I, AE Folles: Large M, Anno XIII (Ratto 704). And finally, two Bronzes of Heraclius: Folles, Three figures / Large M (SBC 808); Facing bust / I - B, central cross (Ratto 1316, scarce). Coins with generally good surfaces, and various tones or patinas. Several with minor, cleanable verdigris. Lot of 16 coins. Coins average Very Fine, one or two a bit better.
