Philip I, 244-249 AD. AE 36 mm., of Ancyra, Phrygia. Scarce. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip right. Reverse: Hera(?), draped, and Zeus, nude, stand frontal, heads to right; Hera holds scepter and pomegranate, Zeus holds anchor and scepter, eagle at feet; Greek inscription around. BMC p. 66, 44 var.; von Aulock --. Some smoothing to fields, mostly on reverse, otherwise pleasing black-green and dark red-brown patina. With bold provincial portrait. Choice Very Fine / Very Fine.
