1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. PCGS graded VF-35. Satiny and bright, with traces of luster in the protected areas and light gold in color. This first year of issue half dollar is very rare in all grades, and this coin is likely high in the condition census for the variety. On the reverse there is a faint die crack through the first T in STATES, but this is not the later die state where the crack spans the entire reverse, further the strike is sharp and normally the eagle is very weak due to die swelling on the eagle for later die states. Excellent hair details on Liberty, and this one shows very little actual wear. Close examination will note a few minor adjustment marks on the obverse rim, but the stars remain as sharp as any seen on these early half dollars. An exciting coin for the specialist or collector who demands a blue chip rarity. We note the PCGS holder calls this a 1794 silver dollar, and this should be reholdered.
Estimated Value $7,500-UP.
Possibly the coin from Gehring Prouty's collection, and a mid condition census example of this variety.
