1856 Flying Eagle Cent. Proof 64. The ever popular first year of issue of the Flying Eagle cent, and issued in extremely limited quantities. This particular one boasts reflective mirror fields and a boldly struck eagle. There is a die line below the 1 in the date, and the 5 is repunched, the reverse shows a high leaf past the base of the C while the opposing leaf near the T of CENT is below the base of that letter. The surfaces have lovely iridescent color with hints of greenish gold and the devices are very clean. A few minor hairlines in the field below the eagle's chest, but they are quite faint. The key date to the series, and always in strong demand.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 13,000.

Realized $15,525
