Lot 1191

Great Britain. Pattern Penny, 1859. Peck-2031. Struck in nickel brass. 19.5 mm. Edge incused. Victoria. Crown surrounded by royal titles. Reverse: PENNY and number 1 centered within an octagon. This is an exceptionally choice example of one of the rare penny patterns of the period. Listed by peck and Freeman as cupro-nickel, this appears to have actually been made in nickel brass. Far superior to the Brand/Nobleman/Norweb specimen this may be the finest of the 6-15 pieces believed to exist. Extremely Rare. Pop 1; The only one graded at PCGS. PCGS graded Proof 64. Estimated Value $800 - UP
