Sale 140

Lot 1173

Great Britain. Proof 'Una & Lion' gold 5 Pounds, 1839. S.3851; Fr-386; KM-742. Victoria. Young Head. Produced by the great 19th-century coin engraver William Wyon, this is among the most famous and desirable of British coins. The obverse design features a young bust of Victoria aged 20 years, while the reverse has the Queen dressed as Una leading the British lion. This gorgeous specimen is remarkably free from scuffs and has a very minimum amount of the hairlines that other examples of this rare coin fall victim to, and the cameo effect of the detailed design is unusual. It would be difficult to find a better specimen. NGC graded Proof 62 Ultra Cameo. Estimated Value $100,000 - UP
Ex Goldberg Sale 41, May 27, 2007, lot 4572 Proof 63 Ultra Cameo (For some unknown reason NGC will not put it back in the the Proof 63 Ultra Cameo holder).
