Ancient Rome. Claudius, 41-54 AD. AE As, Rome mint, struck c. 42 AD., plus 5 other AE or AR Coins of the Julio-Claudians. Bare head of Claudius left. Reverse: Constantia, helmeted, stands left, holding spear. RIC 111. Fields smoothed, deep pit on reverse bottom. Also, a Sestertius of Claudius: Laureate head right / Spes walking left; RIC 115; red-brown, brown, and green patina. Plus 2 Denarii of Augustus, 27 BC. - 14 AD.: Bare head right / Butting bull left (RIC 178a, "scarce!"); Laureate head right / Gaius and Lucius Caesar with spears and shields (RIC 207). The first with small banker's mark on cheek; the other with porous metal, and lamination flaw on obverse. Also, an AE As of Caligula, 37-41 AD.: Bare head left / Vesta seated left (RIC 30). Coin holed, the surfaces rough (the reverse especially so). Last an AE Semis of Nero, 54-68 AD.: Laureate head right / Agonistic prize table (Sear 2000, no. 1980). Metal lightly porous, the reverse off center. Lot of 6 coins. Coins range from Near Fine to Very Fine plus.
