Paeonian Kingdom. Patraos, 335-315 BC. AR Tetradrachm (13.1 g). Laureate head of youthful Apollo right. Reverse: Armed horseman riding down Macedonian warrior, monogram at upper left, king's name in exergue. Dewing 1230 var; BMC p. 2, 6; Sotheby's "Paeonian Hoard," 344. Edge die break on reverse, from 4 o' clock to 6 o' clock, along with small knock in right field. Light russet to steel gray toning. The sharply struck reverse of decidedly superior style for this series. An artistic example of type. Extremely Fine, the reverse choice.
